This is the BEST Salad Dressing because…
- It’s made of pantry staples – you probably have everything you need for this delicious dressing already on hand.
- Goes with everything – I love this easy recipe for fall flavors such as apples, butternut squash, and kale salad, but truthfully it goes with everything and will be the star of the show on a simple green salad. It even makes a great marinade for chicken, pork, or your favorite veggies.

Ingredients
You only need a few simple ingredients for this homemade apple cider vinaigrette:
- extra-virgin olive oil or avocado oil – the best pat of homemade salad dressings is the ability to avoid seed oils. I love the neutral flavor profile of avocado oil, but olive oil also works well.
- pure maple syrup or local honey – for a touch of sweetness and to balance out the tangy flavor of the vinegar.
- raw apple cider vinegar – look for the one with “the mother” for the extra gut health benefits.
- dijon mustard – helps to emulsify the dressing and gives it a little boost of flavor.
- sprinkle sea salt or kosher salt and fresh black pepper – I add a pinch of each and then taste after everything is mixed to see if it needs more.
- optional – orange zest – if I am making this salad for a holiday and I have an orange on hand, I love adding a fresh zest!
Instructions
This dressing is so simple to make!
Step one: Combine dressing ingredients in a small bowl, liquid measuring cup, or mason jar with a tight-fitting lid. Give it a good mix or shake.
Step two: Store in an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use, then drizzle it over a bed of greens and your favorite salad toppings.
Tips
- If your dressing solidifies or separates after refrigeration, you can let it come back to room temperature and then whisk it to emulsify it again. Or, to make this even faster, place your jar of dressing in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes, then whisk or shake it up.
- To avoid this entirely, use avocado oil instead of extra virgin olive oil.
